1st 4 Sport Level One Certificate in Coaching Football

Awarded in partnership with the F.A., the new Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Football is the first step towards becoming a recognised football coach. This Level 1 vocationally related qualification, which replaces the old Junior Team Managers Award, provides you with an opportunity to study and be assessed in both practical and theoretical aspects of coaching football.

This very popular course is appropriate for candidates (minimum of 16 years of age) wishing to gain a basic appreciation of organising football for young players.


Who is it suitable for?

  • Managers and coaches of club teams aged 6 - 16 years of age
  • Prospective candidates for the 1st 4 Sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Football
  • Youth Leaders and prospective Youth Leaders
  • Students of F.E. Colleges
  • Any person whos wishes to get onto the coaching ladder

What will I learn?

  • How to safely organise and supervise football activities including mini soccer, small sided games and conditional games
  • Introduce progressions at the right time
  • Promote and establish working relationships and high standards between players, coaches, parents and officials
  • Understand different aspects of coaching children
  • Identify and adapt football activities and sessions for a variety of different age groups
  • Identify personal development opportunities in football including sports therapy, administration and officiating

Candidates will also attend both the F.A. Emergency Aid and F.A. Child Protection workshops as part of the Level 1 course, and will be given a certificate of attendance for each, which are valid for three years
